Hey Anu,

As a kid, I was part of an Native American Indian Dance Team. Native Americans dance to a drum and the music of the Elders voices. The beats are simple 1 hard, and 2, 3, 4 soft. The toe goes down on 1, and the foot pats the ground on 2, 3, 4. There are other beats, Toe - heal, would be a 2 step beat. A good dancer can dance either to the beats. Then the dance imitates life around a Native American. The Regalia is specific to their tribe.

You cannot even compare a Square Dance, or Cowboy 2 Step to that. Here are some sites to show you the difference.

The Western ballet is based on a two or three beat cycle while the Indian dance is based on the concept of "Taal."
The "Taal" is a rhythmic cycle of definite beats of 8, 10, 12, etc. Costumes and jewelry hold significant importance in this Indian art form. This is not so in the Western dance. Indian dances can be performed solo which is not the case with ballet. Another interesting difference is the absence of any footwear on an Indian classical dancer's feet, since we believe the dance is an offering of obeisance to God and not merely a form of entertainment. It is the happiness of the soul.

Western dance:
It is not only a way to have fun, but spiritual in itself. Dance can be a form of prayer, a way of expressing joy or grief, and a method of becoming closer with man and nature.
Native dancing has been aroud just about as long as the Native American people have been: in ceremony, powwows, and just to pass the day/night. The dance also can have healing powers, not only on the dancer, but on people that the dancer is close to, or dancing for.

Native American dance is centered around the drum. It beats in time with the heart of Mother Earth and provides a base for the song. The drum beat is, as in most dances, the key to Native footwork.

Indian Dance:
Indian dance usually refers to traditional dance from India, such as Bharatanatyam, Kathakali, Kathak , Kuchupudi, Odissi, Mohiniattam or Manipuri.

Dance in India has its origins in antiquity and continues in both classical and modern styles into the present.

Most Indian dance is based on the treatise Natyashastra by the sage Bharata Muni, which explains the Indian art of acting. Acting or natya is a broad concept which encompasses both drama and dance.

...all the best.

From what I have observed, most tribal dances are either sex, not both. Men step vertifically, women shuffle in small steps. Dances are for a specific reason, not entertainment. Other than line dancing, western dance is a male and a female, for fun, not spiritual reasons, although before the night is over, some think they've gone to heaven.
