If you are looking for a pet, the animal shelter/animal rescue league in your area probably has a wonderful companion just waiting for you!
Before you go, though, make a list of what qualities you want in a dog, so you can narrow it down a bit. Size, length of hair (amount of work you want), sex (although it would be spayed or neutered) and energy level are very important things when considering getting a dog. Make sure the whole family agrees that a dog is a good addition to the family and let everyone have some say as to the qualities you want. Make it a fun learning experience!!
And you can go to the AKC or UKC website to see the various dogs out there to get some ideas.

First, make absolutely sure that both of them want a dog. Don't surprise them! Second, any breed is great. Are there any special circumstances? Poodles are better for people with allergies. Short-haired breeds are easier to groom. Puppies may be great, but don't overlook an older dog. They still make great pets and usually come housebroken. Go to your local pound or humane society. There are plenty of wonderful dogs that need homes.

That canines has been there for you its total existence, dependable to you and loving you no count what. Now you're dropping him off on the cut back with no longer something waiting for him yet a week in a frightening shelter and a uthenasia shot on the top of the week. please supply him to a chum or kinfolk member.

I would defiantly say go to the pound and check regularly, because dogs are unfortunately always there... Once you have found a dog that you like make sure to bring all the family members to see the dog to make sure there are no conflicts.

English Springer Spaniels are such a joy to have. It seems like their tail never stops wagging! They are very loving, bright dogs who’s greatest joy in life is just to be near you. They are playful but their exercise needs are not extreme. They are a nice medium size and weight and don’t shed too much (especially if you get one from field lines, rather than show).
I can’t emphasize the love enough. It’s like you can feel it coming off them in waves.

I have always been partial to the cairn terriers but that's me. If you need a small breed maybe a dachsund. Best bet is go to a shelter and look around and see what catches your eye and your heart. They need good homes.
Good luck

Try a shelter (SPCA or RSPCA) first---you might save a life.
You can get great dogs at rescue shelters.

I have two golden retrievers, they are great dogs. Some get bigger than others, but they are relatively small. They are so cute.
