I made my own cider last year and bottled it with a small amount of yeast left in the bottles as the receipe recommended. I want to try a bottle now and am not sure how to get the small amount of sediment out (as I will need to do to prevent my now clear cider going cloudy again - which I don't want). I read on the internet somewhere about turning the bottles upside down so the sediment collects in the neck and then freezing the neck (and the sediment) then you can remove it, but I cannot find this link again and wondered if anyone had any suggestions. Thank you.

Just decant it slowly.
The freezing method is simple though.
Freeze the neck of the bottle to trap the sediment in ice, turn it back the right way up, then take a loop of hot wire and cut the bottle just below the ice plug.

If you left yeast in the bottles your cider probably carried on working and will possibly be very fizzy, it may go off like a bottle of champagne. If i were you i would test a bottle before deciding on a final plan of action. If its not too fizzy just tilt the bottle and pour gently leaving the sediment in the bottom of the bottle. If you want a recipe for easy cider; try to obtain a 42 gallon rum or whiskey barrel, fill with apple juice add 3 bags of sugar and allow to ferment, when fermentation is almost complete add 100 crushed campden tablets and close the barrel. Leave for a month or two ( a year is better, but never could) , invite your mates around, Tap the barrel and drink, some like a dash of lemonade. By the way BE CAREFUL its bleedin dynamite.

Do you remember Perhaps you don't, when some beers like Bass had a sediment.The bottles were store upright and nut subject to too much agitation When purchased the barman pored the beer into a glass very gradually, only tilting the bottle slightly and gradually tilting more as he bottle emptied leaving about a half inch of beer in the bottle with the yeast. The beer in the glass would be clear.If your bottles have been standing for a while and the yeast is a sediment on the bottom you could do similarly.There is a bit of an art to it.If it was wine you could filter it but with cider it would go flat.

Don't worry about it! There's nothing wrong with yeast. Commercial cider makers filter the cider (and probably pasteurise it too). This means that they then have to pump it full of artificial CO2 gas. It is impractical to do this at home and would ruin the cider anyway. Just pour it out of the bottle carefully leaving the sediment behind. But if some does get in your glass it's harmless. The best cider is a bit cloudy anyway!

Don't worry about the yeast in your bottles. You can do the freeze method (called "disgorging") but for the home brewer, it's a waste of time and your cider.
The best bet is to simply refrigerate your bottles a few hours before serving, and serve in a glass taking care not to let the yeast sediment pour out...not difficult if you take your time.
Best of all, you can take all the bottles' yeast sediment, combine them, and you have your yeast culture for the next batch of cider (though it would be best to use a starter to give it a boost before pitching).
Happy cidering...gotta rack mine and bottle in a few days.

Leave it to stand in the fridge without disturbing the sediment to chill, then rack it off the sediment with siphon tubing into a clean bottle or glass.
