any foods high in potassium or carbs.. i.e banana's high in potassium, chocolate bars, especially ones with caremel or guana high in carbs. but i do sugest banana's and orther fruit.. healthy option is always best and lets face it chocolate can do things to your body you don't want (spots, weight gain etc).. i have been a chef for 14 years and have canged my lifestyle several times but over the last 4-5 years i have changed my diet to eating 4-5 fruits a day salads instead of fries, low fat spread instead of butter etc and takeaway's are a very rare treat and i feel alot more alert and awake for it but not all in diet excise and a good sleeping routine has helped althogh can be hard with split shifts but i make sure i get up by 9am on my days off and try to get an early night at least once a week.. hope this helps you.. there is aways energy drinks for short term boosts like red bull but these drinks can make you feel even more tired later on when it wares off..
and don't forget always eat a healthy breakfast, sets your energy levels for the day and without it you are replacing lost energy though the day instead of topping up.

since the body needs a lot of energy to digest food, you should take a lot of fresh fruit. fruit stays only about 30 minutes in you stomach and because of the high water content, they transport the nutritions very easy through your system. green tea will give you a boost in your metabolism and so does spicy food.
