As "Mighty c" said, if you can find the code, any decent locksmith will cut the key for you , im pretty sure it was 5 or six digits for the escort keys.
But the immobiliser will still prevent you starting the car, and without an existing working immobiliser chip im pretty sure ford will charge you to program the chip to the car, as they dont just work out of the factory, last time I had this done ford wanted over £200.
your best bet would be to ask some local auto electricians, as many can get round the immobiliser and at a better price then ford.

A local locksmith can code the key for you, however, I'm afraid its a trip to the Ford dealer for a new immobiliser chip.

the escort does not have a factory engine immobilizer. on any ford product, you would have to have a 'chipped' key; and
thats not available on any escort. so if you have a problem starting the car, then the problem might be in aftermarket system on the car, or there might be a problem elsewhere on the car. (bad fuel pump, starter, etc)
