Or is this simply a placebo cooked up by Bertie Bassett?

Sorry to say, but that sounds like a whole lot of bunk to me!! Particularly when you consider that liquorice contains mainly sugar, which would only create an acidic environment in our bodies and therefore create the perfect environment for the onset of arthritis. Arthritis is simply a build of toxic wastes and chemicals that the body is unable to rid itself of because it is in a continual state of dehydration. Therefore, in an attempt to eliminate the wastes, the body deposits them around the joints of the body, creating arthritis. The solution ?? Don't get dehydrated, drink loads of water each and every day. Avoid or replace two fold caffeinated and soft drinks and drink at least 10 glasses of filtered water every day........ :0)

I've never heard of it being good for Arthritis and it has no affect on mine! It is however a treatment in ulcers and chest infections and chewing the roots is good for you! It also has laxative properties!

Perhaps Bertie is being clever! Providing such a nice way to take our medicine!
