Me and my boyfriend had a heart to heart chat last night as things hadnt been going so smootly. He said he felt smothered! I dont even think we see that much of each other so i dont understand what they meant. He said he loves me and he deffinately wants to be with me and that he is trying to get used to everything as i am his first girlfriend (we are both 20 so hes pretty clueless ... but cute!). He said thathe feels like i am trying to change him. I told him he was being silly and that i dont want to change him in anyway at all. I said i will back off abit if your feeling smothered, and he said no dont do that so i said well what do you want me to do? He said he didnt know. Anybody else ever felt like this or been in this situation. What should i do? I dont want to ignore him or anything! How can i know if he doesnt? He assures me he loves me and wants me. This comment has kind of thrown me? And then when i ask why he says he doesnt know??????? WTF???

Thanks

This is called the "misdirection play".
He wants a little freedom from the restraints of a relationship - basically, he's interested in someone else or wants to date.
He doesn't know how to verbalize it or hurt you - so this is his way to blame you for smothering him, to give you a guilt trip. Keep you off guard and confused to lessen the disappointment.
Sad, but true - this is from a man's perspective.

Good luck, Babygirl!
