RSW and NKW?
Why is it that the Airport Designator for Ft. Myers, Florida is RSW and why is it that the Airport Designator for Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Terriotry is NKW? Like, MSP is Minneapoils St. Paul, and DET is Detroti Michigan...it just doen't make sense to me and I'm trying to memorize these codes...Thanks!

A lot of airports designators are taken from there airport name not the city they serve. RSW is Southwest Florida Intl Airport and it was probably named something else before that (IE regional southwest ???) which would have been where it took it designator. Can't even locate NKW (no commercial scheduled service to it?). As for DET that is the small city airport the main airport in Detroit is DTW (Detroit, MI Wayne county)
