It's because fundamentalist Christians don't believe in "good people". They believe that people, by their nature are capable of only evil. The bible says that your "goodness" is as filthy rags before God, and that you must be washed clean by the blood of Christ. Basically, people have no merit whatsoever.

I don't subscribe to that viewpoint, but that's the viewpoint that says that we all deserve hell, no matter what we do or who we are or how we act.

You need to be saved because you, like the rest of us, are going to spend eternity somewhere. The choice of where has been left to you. When people try to tell you that Christians don't believe in good people, that's absurd. We just don't believe in perfect people, with the exception of Jesus Christ.

When people tell you that you're a good person and don't need Christ, ask them if they have ever sinned. Ask yourself the same question. If the answer is no, they're lying. If the answer is yes, they're a sinner. That's all Christians are saying, that humans sin and cannot help doing so.

So even if you try really hard to be a nice person, a respectful person, if you are human, you need God's sacrifice that was made for you. In our society, if we commit a crime, we must pay the price. Why it would be different with God, I don't know, but people seem to think it should be.

But God, in His love, made a provision to pay that price for us. If you believe that Jesus paid that price for you, if you accept the offer, then you are choosing life. If you don't accept the offer, you reject Him and you reject life.

May God open your eyes to His truth and show you the way.

It sounds like you have the right kind of heart, which is wonderful!

When God gave Moses the laws and the Commandments, He did so to help the Jews come closer to God. In the years between then and when Jesus came, the Jews became legalistic. Even today, we use the term Pharisee to indicate someone legalistic.

Jesus came to fulfill the law, to show us that it's not the letter of the law that is important, but the heart. He set us free from having to follow every letter of the law in order to get into Heaven. He told us that committing a sin wasn't near as important as your hearts condition when you did it. He offered us a way to keep getting closer to God despite our sin.

Before Jesus, the people had gotten into a mindset that if they followed every single stitch of the law their entire life they would go to Heaven, even if they were awful people on the inside! Jesus came and said no, even if you break the law you can get into Heaven because it is your heart that will be judged, not your legalism.

If His message is something that can help you find your way to God, then you are already saved :)

Oh, and btw? Look more closely at Jesus teachings and you will find the only time He told people "yer doing it wrong" was when they acted legalistic :)

everyone can choose to be respectful, stay out of trouble, love a specific group of people and live what they believe to be a "good" life, but being saved gives you the benefits of living a "blessed life". A life that not only benefits you, your family and your circle of friends but everyone else. It means you have divine intersession in troubled times and a way out when there seems to be no way out. and the knowledge that when it's all over and done that you have a safe haven for all of eternity. Have a blessed day. =)

That's just it you are not a good person. "No one is good but One, that is, God" Matthew 19:17.

See none of us are good because we have a sinful nature. (Romans 5:12). So we need the redeeming blood of Jesus to purify us and make us good so that we can enter into Heaven. Jesus said it plainly "Ye must be born again (saved)" (John 3:7).

So if you want to live an eternal life in Heaven you must be saved.

In the bible in the book of Romans 3:23 " For all have sinned an come short of the glory of God ".Ecclesiastes 7:20 " For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not ". Have you ever swore ? Had a bad thought ? Disobeyed your parents ? We all have ....God is giving us a warning that there is a eternal severe punishment ahead for us .Through his great mercy for us he is giving us a " Free ticket to heaven " if we admit we are a sinner ,ask for forgiveness and try to do his will. Go to a bible believing church . Romans 10:17 "Faith commeth by hearing, hearing by the word of God ".

LOL when I first clicked on this question I thought you meant "why should I be a virgin???" lmao

People who tell perfectly nice people they're "doing it wrong" have attitude problems or are just annoying or bossy. SOMETIMES it's good to be corrected (it might help in the long run) but there is a line.

It IS annoying when it's something small though, isn't it?

If you believe and are saved you have gained something in the end of the world, and have lost nothing. If you dont believe and are not saved, then you have lost something in the end, and have not gained any thing. Spituality is only to better your self as a human if you are a good person you will know whats right from wrong. being respectful to MOST people is not all.

There are a lot of interesting answers here. The problem is you are asking people what they think God wants you to do. Many people say , well I think bla bla bla... Who cares what you THINK. Did you create the world, set everything in motion, make the criteriea for heavan and hell? What you need to be seeking is what does God say about this.

First, if you are going to believe that God loves you,and is concerned about your life, you have to assume that He left His instructions for you somewhere. In all actuality, it is impossible to prove or disprove God's existance. But remember one thing, that just because you believe something, does not affect reality at all. It is alo impossible to prove which way to God is correct.Seek truth and God will reveal Himself to you. Seek excuses to make yourself feel good and you will find them too.

I have chosen to base my life on the Bible. It makes the most sense to me by far. Everything I do, I hold up to that standard and judge myself by it. Just because you ( or I or societiy ) think what we are doing is "good" doesn't mean a thing. For example, you said you are loving to most people. God says to love your enimies, and do good to those who harm you. So by your own words according to the Bible you have condemned yourself. It doesn't matter if you have never seen a Christian act this way, It's still God's standard.

It would be foolish to want to play baseball with your local team, and then try to make up your own rules and still expect to "win".Similarly, it is completely assanine to find your own way to God. It's His game, His rules and His call whether you win or lose.Thankfully, if you try to do it His way, He is very forgiving and patient with the inevitable stumblings and failures.

The answer to your question is - You don't need someone to tell you that you are wrong, you need God to tell you that you are wrong!

Dear Friend,

Because we are all inherently sinful and fall short of Gods standards. But the Bible promises us that we have the opportunity of life on a paradise earth. But to enjoy this we must turn away from our present sinful course, repent and ask Jesus to come into our lives.

God Bless

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
