My son got a criminal tresspass charge, he is 17 it is a summary offense. He plead guilty and paid the fine. I am curious to know if this will effect his chances of getting some finicial aid for college. Nothing was damaged, what it was is a group of teens, (approx 50) went to a plant parking to watch a fight that never even happened. The cops showed up and charged them all with tresspassing. No damage to anything or no fighting happened!

Not to worry. The ONLY time a student can be denied financial aid for criminal offenses are
* if he/she has had more than 2 conviction for possessing drugs
* if he/she has had more than one conviction for selling drugs
* if he/she is in jail

Many people might allege that Federal Student Aid regulations are fairly lenient in this regard. In fact, with drug convictions, eligibility can be regained after the student completes a qualified rehabilitation program. Students in jail can still receive some types of financial aid (for example, they can have Pell grants but not loans).

No it will not affect his chances. As long as he does not have a felony. Drugs, killings etc.
