We are both in our 30's-Went on first date, went really well. He calls me everyday, not to say much but hello. He jokes with me, ha ha... I joke with him, he gets crappy afterwards....He basically said some pretty mean things like if I am not happy then I should go see my ex...stuff like that. I apologized because my joking with him may have been really insulting but it was a joke! He was joking with me afterall-but then I really lay it down and he gets po'd. Then a day later he is all nice again and asking me out for Saturday...should I be concerned ? Is he crazy? Potentially abusive?

we were playfully (I thought) joking about each others intelligence. He is very smart and I would never consider him ignorant, but when he joked that it probably took me longer to figure out some stupid card trick, I let him have it. I basically reduced him to an imbecile...but he was bragging about how much smarter he supposedly is over me..it really is so juvenile

I think you should be realxed and don;t bother about that discussion much. As that was momentary response to your INSULTING joke. Keep in mind not to repeat that kind of joke with him again.
Pretty obivious thing is, if you joke (may be insulting one). It is a joke, but if do the same to you, you got serious, this is not fair anyway with him.
As he again started talking normally in the evening, hence it says that he is not bother about your joke that much and also not keeping any bad feeling regarding you in his heart.

Maybe you two need to stop joking because it causes problems because some people can take it some can't......the reason why he is so nice because he is trying to start off fresh again and put what happened behind him

he can dish it but cant take it. if he does it again just explain to him that u are joking and thats how u joke around. if he still cant take it after a few times of u all doing this then u might want to reconsider the relationship. unless ur willing to coddle him and bend however he says.....

hmm, well that's not a good sign. i wouldn't call him an abuser just yet, but he sounds like he may have split personalities... use your instincts, they're throwing up red flags for a reason.
