I have a 5 week old kitten who weighs 5.29 ounces, which she was suppose t be at on her first week. I feed her milk replacement formula, and i have this surup stuff to help her get all teh minerals and all that she needs, i just got can food thats from the brand name medi cal, which she likes but i only fed her once with that. cause i'm not sure if i should since she hasn't grown or anything, so i want to stick her with the milk. so if anyone has any great ideas how to get a little kitten to start growing and gaining that would be a big help for me.

Thanks for the great advice, but when i called the vet, she asked what i was feeding her, now she did say that she needs to be put off the milk sligthly but can eat can food and hard kitten food. I do have a 10kg bag of whiskas hard kitten food, but teh vet says thats the worst one you could give a kitten. i don't know why cause i thought it was a good name brand. my other cat thats 2 years old and stay's indoors loves whiskas. So i was told to try medi cal. I was also told to feed her 3-4 hours apart, cause she needs to be fed at least 8 times a day cause she's so small. So let me know if this makes sense to you or what you would advice to me. thanks!

Hi there.

First, stop giving her milk except for one time a day. As for feeding, you should be feeding her 3-4 times a day, small amounts, and food that is for baby cats. I suggest you use food from Whiskas (may be spelled wrong) as they have special food for baby cats that has everything they need. I always use this food when I have kittens to feed. The milk is alright but don't give her too much or she will get dihereha. Stick to the canned food, it's healthier for her.

*EDIT* As for the post below mine, DO NOT deworm a 5 week old cat. You could kill it. The cat isn't old enough to handle that kind of medication. Odds are (99%) that a cat that old won't have worms unless she eats mice or you have another cat that goes outside and hunts. PLEASE don't try and deworm it. Sorry to the person below me here but that is just really bad and dangerous advice.

cut down on the milk talk to the vet incase she has roundworms kittens can be born with them if the mamma cat has them. secondly feed her with thing like mashed up boiled egg must be cooked well and not soft wet some kitten biscuits with water or a drop of kitten milk. and give moist litten food i use the one from purina it is not as rich as whiskas but mash it with a fork a kitten of that age should be starting to wean from milk the mamma cat would have started by about four weaks and difinitely by six weeks as they have very sharp teeth coming through. don't worry about her weight as every kitten grows and develops differently and she maybe the runt of the litter. so long as she is fairly active i really wouldn't worry. good luck
