Why do you want a SUV? They're dangerous gas guzzlers. You don't go offroad at all do you? What you need is station sedan or whatever you call them in the US..

Probably the Chevy Trailblazer it's mid sized a tahoe or suburban would be nice but they are big and may be a little hard to handle in mall parking lots but if you have lots of kids you may need the space. The chevy equinox is pretty nice too it's really more of a tall car that looks like a SUV though, just go to the dealer and drive them all try parking them and see what you like, by the way they don't make oldsmobiles anymore so that is out, and buicks are just over priced chevys so just get the chevy and use the money you saved to shop.

Like, how many kids? If you need a third row seat and cargo room, I'd have to say your only choice is the Suburban. But if you don't need a third row, the options are endless. There's the new GMC Acadia- tons of cargo room without the third row seat. I know it's not a Chevy, Buick, or Oldsmobile, but it's still made by GM. If you're really stuck on these three, you can wait a few months and buy a re-badged version, called the Buick Enclave. These SUVs are great, 'cause they're powerful, big, and yet relatively fuel-efficient.

I would say try the new Chevy Tahoe except the 3rd row seats need to be removed, and can't be folded/dissapears like an Expeditions.... Although I do like the new GMC Arcadia or Saturn Outlook, Buick Enclave, in that it's 6 passenger, but built on a car-frame, so it's pretty fuel efficient for as SUV's/Crossovers go. And the media seems to like them as well. I'll provided some links for you.
Also adding a link (first one)to JDPower's which is the automotive authority on researching vehicle reliability, which goes to show that the Tahoe ranks tops, in their survey in reliability....the Suburban comes in 2nd.
That's to control any misconceptions from other posters...that foreign vehicles in this category are more reliable which isn't true. Someone hasn't received the memo rencently...
And then next 3 are the Arcadia, Outlook and Enclave, with pricing, pictures, options, etc.
Hope this helps..;-)

Why SUV? Did You ever think about minivan now top of the line is honda oddysey is good on gas very roomy and family has a lot futures which I like is 6 cyl engine but when dosen't need a lot of power only 3 cyl. works same as chevy impala with 8 cyl.another think minivan is the same price or cheeper than suv and japanese car hold a value so if you decide sell the car get more money but if you think suv is the best for you i recomend chevy trailblazer or gmc envoy only with 6 inline cyl. frend of mine has one 2002 86k never had problem very good engine!!!!i don't know about v8 good luck!

Well, Pontiac has new SUV cross-over vehicles that get 26 mpg on the highway, but I would compare them to Toyota's newest RAV4 which is rated highly. Remember, many of Toyota's cars and trucks are American made too, and Toyota has had some cars that they share an identical design with GM (like the Pontiac Vibe and Toyota Matrix).

Sounds narrow-minded given the fact imports are the number one selling SUV in America! Toyota is about to take 40% share of the market in 2007! ( they didn't achieve that selling junk!) Just look at the craftsmanship and warranties! It all speaks for itself! Most of the imports get 300,000 with excellent preventative maintenance--- show me what American made SUV lies in that category??????????
