what breed of dog should i get?

i have a muedim house and a meduem yard i love lots of them but i am not sure which breed i should look for

Golden Retriever, if you want to have a pet; a sort of family member. Boxer or German Shepherd as a sentinel, too protective of the master.

There are places online that you could search for "apartment dogs", which could give you an idea of dogs that don't require a lot of excersize. It all depends on what you want, so weigh the sides of personalities with each dog because each dog has specific characteristics you might like, and there are outside reasons to why you would get a specific breed besides just the size of your house and yard, of course.

I got a beagle recently and I live in an apartment with a lot of space for me to walk him and play with him outside. He is great because of his smaller size and has a lot of energy (but not too much). He is extremely friendly with other people and other dogs, which is one of my favorite traits about him. Also, beagles are pretty smart so he has learned tricks quickly (though they can tend to be stubborn at times, so that may be why housetraining has been difficult!)

It all depends on: level of your activity, Are you active? do you want a lap dog, or an active breed? are you looking for a hunting dog, a guard dog. The size of the dog shouldn't matter what does is your expectations.
Also even amongst same breeds there are different temperaments.
Some are Hi active Medium active and Low active.

I would suggest you take an experience person with you when purchasing your dog, remember cuteness is for the moment only

I depends on the size dog you would like. I heard someone here recommend a Jack Russell terrier ('Eddie' on "Frasier" was a JRT), which is a dog I wanted until I did a little research. Apparently, JRT's are very jealous of any other people or dogs in the house, which means they might no be the best dog to have with kids. That's why we decided to go with a black lab. They're great with kids, really smart, and serve as a comfort for when my husband goes out of town (we have 2 labs now, and their loud, bellowing barks ward off potential ne'er-do-wells).

GREAT DANE!!!! I have one who is the most friendly and loyal dog that I have ever had. He is large, 160lbs, but they have a slow metabolism and don't eat as much as you would think they do. They are wonderful with children and love to fetch and roll in the floor with you. They will also climb up your lab like a big baby and lay there. My fiance, who has always had Pitt Bulls said that the Great Dane is so much smarter and friendlier than any of those Pitts were. They have very short hair and do not shed , he also stays in the house and has never pooped or peed or broke anyhting. He is truely a Gentle Giant!!!!!

I would have to suggest the most popular--- Golden Retreiver or a Lab (Yellow, Black, Chocolate, White, or Silver) They are very loyal and friendly dogs and as long as you play ball or go on walks with them they will be fine. But if you are looking for a different type of dog, are you home all the time will they be outside, inside, alone, in a crate, I need more details then what you gave me!

You should get a medium sized dog like a lab mix or a golden retriever, or an Irish Setter. I have a husky and it likes to terrorize and escape and is pretty much a wild beast, but I have a big yard for him and it's cool, but he's crazy. We call him Crazy Kai, you never seen a dog with so much energy, I wish I had a sled so he could pull me around. He sleeps like a human to, dogs should sleep 12 hours a day, kai sleeps around 8

A lot depends on your personality and what you are willing to put up with. Long or short hair-needs to be groomed either on a daily basis or 1 to 2 times a week, dogs shed hair and the longer & thicker it is the more you put up with.
All dogs need to be walked ( owner/pet relationship bonding and training) big dogs need longer and more energetic walks.
If you have children can depend a lot on size & temperment of dog breed.
Best bet-go to liburary and check out dog ownership book for "Dummies". It will help you really understand what you need.

the size of your house and yd is only part of getting a dog

do you have small children?
do you go out alot?
do you like going out for walks exercise being in the yrd?
do you sit on the couch all day?
are you a home body or go our parting alot?

all these questions MUST BE ANSWERED
if you are always on the go and never home get a med dog that likes to be alone and wont kill the house
if you like to sit around all day then get a low maintenance dog NOT A HIGH STRUNG ONE that needs lots of running and play time

you need to figure out what kind is best for you to make a happy home for both you and the dog

Just purchase the dog YOU want.

The size of house and yard really has not alot to do with what kind of dog you'd like.

I have a Yorkie, great personality etc. acreage, large home.

Doesn't make a difference, she weighs 5 pounds.

We have a chocolate lab/Weimeraner mix that is the smartest, most loving dog you can imagine. They have a sweet disposition to start with. We could do anything to that dog and she'd be happy. My husband gets her up on the bed, wraps the blankets around her, and wrestles with her. She takes insulin for diabetes, and as soon as she hears me mixing it (she's also blind), she goes to where I first gave her the shots, sits down, and sticks her leg out. If it's the wrong one for that time of day, I tell her "other side" and she turns around and sticks out the other leg.
