They try to demean you and demostrate themselves they are able to outdo you in many aspects, they are competing with you at all times even in irrelevant things..... etc. The said above is true as well.

Usually negativity comes from the fact that the person feels threatened by you or your achievements. Feeling threatened or jealous makes them want to put you down, belittle you in front of other people. I think it's a strange mix of acting like they hate stuff about you but also trying to copy you at the same time. The way I see it, if they see life as a competition and get wound up in stuff like that then they only deserve your pity.

They scoff at everything you say and lead other people to believe you are incompetent without actually giving a proper reason to. They constantly undermine you or take your ideas and pass them off as their own.
I go to college with 17 other women and this kind of thing is really rife! Its pathetic and immature and mostly done by fully grown women!
Ignore it - it shows that you are a better person who gets on with their lives rather than letting other peoples petty jealousy drag you down

The easiest way is to ignore people like that. Example: I bought a new car and the petty, jealous sorts had their say. My response "It is green friendly and suits my fancy."
I would take the attitude that I am above anyone who tries to damage me.

They keep on asking about your achievements all the time and ask you how much time you spend on working/studying...etc.. instead of talking about normal things. They also try to show you up in various ways and act secretive when they're talking with you (i.e. look around to see if other people notice...etc...)

People who are jealous of you tend to belittle all the positive things you achieve, most of the time not even realising that they are just jealous of you. I wouldn't say that there was indicated patterns of behaviour to look out for, just people who dislike you for no reason other than your success.

You'll know. They'll have that jealous look in their eye as they're muttering some snide comment in your direction. It just oozes jealousy

Gut feeling.
They are curious about you, always wanting to pry in your life.
They will not hesitate in putting you down at any given opportunity.
