I use it almost everywere: From omelets to stews.
However:
Fresh basil (especialy the wide leafed one) is amaizing with fresh pasta, or any pasta in general, with white sause.
Use it on grilled or roasted meat, it combines great with rosemary!!
Anything with tomatoes !
Also you can use it for marination meat, or fish.

One of the things I love to make with basil is pesto.
I use about a half cup of basil leaves, add a pinch of sea salt, and I use ground up walnuts instead of pine nuts.Add fresh garlic and Parmesan cheese, and olive oil,and ta da! The best pesto in the world!

Basil - herb - used in tomato based sauces and dishes - tomato and basil sauce is a good mix for a homemade pasta bake sauce - Can also be used (well I do) as a sprinkle into potato prior to mashing - adds a delicate flavour to the mixture

Basil is a great Herb, very versatile.
Good for all the above answers, I add chopped basil to boiled rice, as in the mashed potatoes, it adds a delicate flavor, it also adds a little color too.
You need fresh Basil if using for salads, but I find dried chopped basil just as good in Potatoes and rice.
Why not just experiment, its great fun if you enjoy cooking.

Basil is a wonderful herb easy to grow in an herb garden /very aromatic and great to tear or chop up into salads or sauces esp.anything containing tomatoes.it dries well and you can store it for winter use.I also grow it in the house as it does well in a pot./when i harvest in the fall and have a lot i like to take basil ,garlic and olive oil ,run them through the processor and store in the fridge in jars.this is very good to put in sauces or mix into scrambled eggs, or to rub on sliced tomatoes.mmmmm
