I live in newcastle upon tyne and for my mam birthday in may i want to book her a spa weekend can you advise me on the best and nearest place

What a lovely idea. found this on google - it may be of use to you. A lot of hotels seem to specialise in hen do's which might not be the right atmosphere for a relaxing weekend with your mum.
