Real happiness should be first of all ever lasting. If it is not going to be a permenant one, then it is not real in the sense, it is going to end at some instant. We are all going to die, means any happiness which we achieve will come to an end. Also when we look around us, one side we see people like George Bush, Bill Gates and another side we see many documentary film in BBC or Al-Jazeera which depicts the miserable life of people living in some parts of Africa. Both these extreme people do have happiness and sadness in their life. If you don’t believe this email George Bush and Bill Gates to verify. In fact they will have more worries and problems everyday than the poor african people. What we can achieve in this worldly life is Peace in Mind. Whatever happens we take it as from God and live as per the ups & downs of life. Don’t become too much happy and lose your control. Don’t become too much sad and grieve such that our heart will burst in tension. In both the extremes we have to maintain our mind in peace & calm. This can be achieved only by "Complete submission of your Free-Will to our Creator, The Almighty God".

Remy has it right. Concentrate on the here and now. Enjoy the small joys life has to offer. Like a hot shower, a nice cup of coffee, time with friends, a walk in the sunshine.
Look for the positive. Concentrate just on what you're doing. When washing the dishes, do just that. Feel the warmth of the water on your hands. Treat each plate as if it's a small baby you're washing. Exercise care and diligence.
"The miracle is not to walk on water. The miracle is to walk on the green earth in the present moment, to appreciate the peace and beauty that are available now." ThÃch Nhất Hạnh
Well hey! It worked for me. Good luck!

"There is nothing call real in this Material World." as quoted by Lord Krishna Himself in Bhagvat Gyan.
Only way to be happy eternally is to be showered by the mercy of the Lord. This can be only possible via Ayonya Bhakti and been soaked in Devine love and eternal bliss and trying to attain Saat-Chit-Anand.
This is the happiness in real term as it would not decay with time, like the other joy which are material based and die with time. Maya is never to be enjoyed. It is a mirage which takes you in the middle of desert just to leave you there dying. By the time you realise you were chasing Mirage it is often too late and Jevas thus falls in the cycle of birth and death.
So try to stay away from Maya and enjoy eternal bliss of God to be happy in real terms.

Swapna:
I am happy to reply to your question, but this wont last for ever.
You are happy when someone says you are beautiful, but just 1 hour later you feel sad because someone said you are ugly...
Real happiness is not to feel sad when someone yells at you, or when someone says you dont look beautiful on a particular day...
It is how you feel... Rain makes u gloomy, sun gives u a headache, beach waters make you bounce with joy.. but they are not the ultimate.... right??
So understand what makes you feel nice, leaves no regret when you do it, you have a craving for it (not sex / food / drugs etc... they are diversions for real happiness)
and that one thing should be so powerful that you are willing to leave your family and future (like Gautama Buddha) or ignore all the debts your family has (like Swami Vivekananda) or throw a bright future filled lots of money (like Mahatma Gandhi) or even throw a kingdom (Karnas devotion to Gauravas) and you are willing sacrifice your money, wealth..... just to acheive it
You will find be filled with joy and peace... and that is ultimate happiness

"But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God" (Psalm 146:5). Today so many people are pursuing happiness without knowing exactly what they are looking for or where to find it.
True happiness is not superficial and fleeting as a day at an amusement park might be. True happiness begins when one is in a right relationship with God. In fact, God is the only source of true happiness, because He offers those intangibles we that we mistakenly believe can be found on earth:security, peace, contentment, and hope for the future. None of these can be found in a job, money, a relationship, power or position. They are God's alone to give.
The Lord Jesus told us where ultimate happiness lies. He said, "Happy are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they will be filled" (Matthew 5:6) Is your happiness and contentment found in Christ? If not, open your heart to Him today.

The best way to achieve happiness is to make a choice to be happy.
When we choose to be happy nothing can disturb our happiness at anytime.
Happiness is a state of our mind and not dependent on anything external.

Happiness are many
1. Material - by so many means, but all are temporary and ultimately results in misery
2. Spiritual happiness is divided in to two
a) Brahmananda - Happiness derived out of realizing one's self as eternal spiritual spark.
b) Premananda - Happiness by pure unalloyed devotional service in relation to God.
The happiness derived by brahmananda is multiplied my milion times, it is like a drop compared to the happiness of premananda. It is achieved by chanting the mahamantra,
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
