My dog doesn't drink heavily but he has the drops out of the bottom of about 3 or 4 bottles of beer each night. We don't feed him bowls full but he scrounges for it now, as soon as we open a bottle he sits there grunting until we get to the bottom of it to feed him the dregs!!

Will this have any effect on his health? He's really snotty and sneezes a lot ?

I thinks he's an alcoholic now! We'll have to send him to AA !!!

Yes, our Jack Russell sneezes if he drinks beer as well. As regards the long term effect it does seem to affect his memory. He never seems to remember that it his round.

We had a German Shepherd that would actually say, "I wuv woo" when anyone had a beer. She only got a very little backwash at the bottom of the bottle. She also liked Jack Daniels, but we would only let her smell it, never drink it. She lived to be 17 years old. Why is it they say that it's good for a person to consume a glass of wine or beer a day and it's good for our health? I think it does have it's benefits for dogs as long as it's not everyday and not more than a teaspoon.

It will have exactly the same long term effects as it would on humans. It is our responsibility as owners to care for the welfare of our pets. As the dog doesn't understand that this can be harmful, it is down to you to stop it. Better to not let him have it, rather than he develops liver failure further down the line. Remember as well that dogs are so much smaller than us, so the effect on their bodies of a few drops is much greater than it would be on us. Animals should not have alcohol at all.

That's highly irresponsible of you since alcohol is toxic to an animal. I had a GS growing up, threw a party and one guy fed him a beer thinking it was funny. It wasn't that funny after we got the vet's bill, and had to take him back again, I can tell you that. He's a dog, alcohol is NOT FOR DOGS.

No, dogs always love beer. The drops from 4 bottles is not enough to do him any harm. Don't give him more than that and be sure he always has plenty of water. He will be fine, it's nice you share with your dog.

yes they become alcoholics far easier then people .and an alcoholic dog is not a joke ,they have hangovers and can get very moody if they dont get their toot in time.
it looks like fun for you in the beginning but is a serious problem in the end like people who feed their dogs mariujanna ,and then get upset that the dog finds it where ever it is hidden and scofs the lot
or with enthusiastic barking tell the police where their favorit drug is hidden ,when they visit you

LOL! Well, if he drinks too much then he'd suffer the same as a person who drinks too much: liver, kidneys, etc.

It depends on his weight as to how much is too much. I'd avoid letting him have it if you want a healthy doggy with a long life.

Sounds like he has you well-trained with the grunting!

That amount will do him more good than harm, I have known dogs that live in pubs drinking loads everyday with only one problem they seem to die with a smile in their old age.
