I'm not sure what you mean by four books. As others have pointed out, the Bible is comprised of 66 books divided into the Old Testament and the New Testament. There are four versions of the Gospel (meaning: Good News), which is basically four accounts of the same story from different perspectives.
John B: snide sarcasm is not attractive.
Mark: you didn't address the issue at all, and what you wrote did not make sense.
Punter: long, boring, response. Has nothing at all to do with the question at hand. Very boorish of you.
Jonah-Nine: Islam has Five Pillars of Faith. Your response was also rather non-sensical.
Earl D: Suras are chapters of the Qur'an. The Hadiths are the 'Authoritative Texts' which explain further. Basically they use the Hadiths as well, however wherever there is a conflict then the Qur'an is to be followed.

The King James Version of the Bible is in the old English which has "thee, thou, and thy" and makes reading it difficult for some. Therefore, newer versions with more up-to-date English have been printed. These versions are the New King James, New International Version, American Standard (new & old) and others. The printers try to keep the same words with the same meaning but I prefer the old King James Version. There are over 1200 translations of the Bible for other languages. The Mormons and Jehovah Witness have changed the wording of the Bible and I do not suggest their bible versions. The Koran is not even considered the bible.
The Message by Eugene Peterson is not considered the bible even though it is Peterson's version and in Peterson's words as a Christian. I use Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, the KJ Study Bible and another good one is the Scofield Reference Bible. There are 66 books in the Bible of the most dynamic teaching that you will ever encounter. No university in the world holds a book that is anything like it. In the Bible God Himself speaks to man. It is a book of divine instruction. The Bible answers these 4 questions:
1. Where have I come from?
2. Where am I going?
3. Why am I here?
4. How can I know the truth?

Most religions have multiple books. The Muslims have three main books, for example. The Jewish scriptures (the Tanarh) is divided into three major sections with multiple books in each.
For the Christians, the scripture consist of a library of 66 commonly accepted books. These here divided in two major section. The Old Testament is the same as the Hebrew scriptures, with 39 commonly accepted books. There also exist a Greek translations of those scriputres which includes 7 additional small books and two additions to Hebrew books that are included in the Catholic and Orthodox Bible. These books are considered to be of lesser inspiration then the 39 other books. The New Testament contains 27 books that are recognized by all Christian groups.
The reason for multiple books is that they were written by 40+ different authors over a period of 1500+ years. There was no one single author of the Bible (unless you consider that to be God, the ultimate source of it all). It began with five books, and has grown over the centuries as God had additional dealings and gave additional revelations to his people.
Not sure to what you are referring to by "4" books.

Actually it is religions that have many books: Jehovah's Witnesses with the watchtower, and the awake, along with all their other books. Mormons with the book of Mormon. Christian Science with their book. The Bible is composed of 66 books which all have one major theme, and that is Jesus.
As for one of the above comments, that answerer is merely showing his ignorance of the Scriptures. The Bible does not contain errors. It is the Word of God.

The four Gospels?
The Gospels--The Debate Goes On
~ The Gospels--History or Myth? http://www.watchtower.org/library/w/2000/5/15/article_01.htm
- Are the Gospel accounts of the birth of Jesus Christ true?
- Was Jesus really resurrected?
- Did he actually say:
......"I am the way and the truth and the life"?
These are just a few of the questions answered in the above listed article. It also discusses the fact that there are four of them, & the possible reason/s for this.

bc of the way Jesus gathered a bunch of dudes around him to deceminate some of his messages for him. So Chritianity has more authors(deciples) than others do because of it. And Christianity is also partly made from the old Jewish text too. more books more authors more wisdom nuff said
