I agree with your thoughts on this. It's rude when one starts proselytizing their religion. As much as I love talking about mine, I speak on it only when asked about and try not to be detailed. My cousin (May Allah be pleased with him) did it this way. If you asked him what religion he practiced, he'd say Islam and leave it like that.

It's ok if people are talking about various religions in a general and not an insulting way. But one should not talk about religion in a personal or pushy way. Some people take so-called Witnessing too seriously. We had a guy who went around trying to convert everyone. A real no no and it made me and others very uncomfortable.

It's a topic that should be avoided at work. People at work should feel comfortable and in today's multicultural societies, a conversation about religion is bound to offend someone, make them feel awkward or uncomfortable. There are laws against this now within the workplace and it could be considered discrimination or harrassment, depending on the nature of the conversation.

That really depends on who you're talking to and the tone of the discussion.
I enjoy discussing different religions and have spoken with people from different religions with no problem as we respect that we each hold differing beliefs without it being personal.
If someone were proselytizing then that would be a different kettle of fish.
Provided the discussion is respectful of the people present, respectful of the rights of people to hold different beliefs, and is not downgraded into an argument, then I don't see why you can't.
Just my two cents' worth!

You're not saying what exactly the people are talking about. If someone is saying that his or her religion is the only way and any other religion is bad then they shouldn't be talking about it. However, if it's a discussion comparing and contrasting religions or a question answer session, I see nothing wrong with it. I think a lot depends on the content.

most of the time, it isn't just rude, it's against corporate policy to discuss religion at work. Because things have become so controversial, companies have been forced to put policies in place so that people are protected from being exposed to such things at work.
If you are the person that is uncomfortable, talk to your manager about it. If you are the one doing the talking, then find a better forum for that after work.

If it is part of your life it should be a natural outcropping of an inner decision. Your uncomfortable about that but how many times do people talk about or joke about or innuendo about sex.
