I chose to go to a co-ed High School rather than St Patrick's an all boys Catholic one, that helped, then I went on to University so by now I had managed to escape the total religious immersion of the family home and religious schooling...it faded away over a period of years until one day I realised it had gone and I had control of my own mind back again instead of being controlled by religious notions and institutions... wonderful and I've never looked back.

It wasn't as hard as I would have thought, considering how ingrained it was in me. Logic is a much kinder master than religion. It did take a lot of time, though. To be honest, I don't discuss my atheism a lot in "real" life. Living in Texas, its difficult to withstand the shocked looks and the "witnessing" to me by people that think I am going to hell.

My family wasn't that religious anyway, I was perhaps the most religious at the time so it wasn't that difficult; it was a logical decision after reading the ridiculous and fictional stories in the Old Testament. I'm the most Atheistic person in my family now.
