You need to leave the ring in for at least 6 weeks. After the initial healing is complete you can switch jewelry.
You can get segment rings, which don't have a bead on them, and look like a solid ring. Some people have complained about where the ring closes not being smooth and irritating the piercing. (I don't sell this kind of jewelry, so I'm not sure, but make sure you get a good quality titanium or surgical steel one).
You can also get a labret post for it. It's a stud with a flat disk on the back and a bead on the front.
Circular barbells are also a popular choice (they are a ring with a space, two beads on the ends) You can get them either straight or twisted (so the ends line up, or are twisted to each side)

To begin with, you will have to keep the original ring in until the piercing has closed up. The ball that screws the ends together keeps it secure until it has healed.
However, when it has, the ring can be exchanged for ones that don't have a ball, they are fixed by the ring being hollow and one end slipping into the other. Sorry, it's hard to explain. You get them in all different colours, but they are slightly more fiddly to put in than the ball style.
The other thing you could do is to use a ball ring and turn the ball round so that it is on the inside of your lip, therefore hiding the ball. This can become a bit annoying after a while, as it clicks off your teeth and can get in the way when you're eating.
Another alternative is to get a stud. You will need to get this from a professional piercers, as it is made specially for your piercing and is thicker than the average ring. It is twisted at the back like a nose stud to stop it falling out.
Whatever you do, PLEASE don't take the ball ring out before the recommended time, as it is really sore! When you do choose a piercing, it's a good idea either to get one made from titanium or stainless steel. Have fun!

You'll have to leave the initial ring in while it heals, 4-6 weeks.
But if they said, "You have to get this one with the ball because it's titanium," that's not quite right- titanium is a great material for a new piercing, but not only capture bead rings come in it.

I definitely would recommend leaving the original ring in their for 4-6 weeks to allow the piercing to calm down. If you starting changing the ring frequently it will agitate the opening.
Always get alternative rings from a piercing salon as they will be made from surgical steel.
Your peircing is basically a hole in your skin so it easily can get infected.
You can either sterilise the new ring yourself or for a minimal fee the peircing studio should replace it for you.

you can get titanium rings with no ball, i used to have one. maybe just try a differend piercers to buy jewellry.
you'll have to keep the one you;ve got in for a few weeks though, til it's healed properly. once it's a bit more flexible you could always roll the ball right to the back to it's inside your mouth and so less noticable, it's not very good for your teeth though!

The piercer used that type of jewelry because its easiest to deal with for healing purposes. Wait 6-8 weeks and go back to the piercer and ask if they have other jewelry options and have them put something else in for you.

well first of all, don't change the piercing until it heals. just push the ring around so the ball is hidden in your mouth.
as for different rings check our www.painfulpleasures.com, they have a LOT of body jewlry for GREAT prices. i live on their website, lol. good luck! i'm jealous, i'm always wanted that done!

Piercing the lip does not any way change your personality. Rather it hurts you when your boy friend kisses you. You can remove it. it will heal soon.
