An IRA is an Individual Retirement Account. An IRA is a personal savings plan that provides income tax advantages to individuals saving money for retirement purposes. Basically, this is something people put money in for their future. It is meant to supplement any social security or other retirement benefits they will already have. A lot of times the IRS will give certain tax credits or bonuses for people who have an IRA.
