I love chocolate but am looking for a healthier option. I am not used to the biter taste of dark chocolate yet, but I do like some a lot. Which would be the best?

Dark chocolate is definitely 'better' than regular milk chocolate if you're looking at nutritional value and calories. But if you can't take the bitter taste of it, I suggest you start off gradually by sampling chocolates with various percentages of cocoa in them. Don't eat it on its own yet; try the liquored versions first, or go to a good chocolatier which offers say truffles with dark chocolate as a base, dark chocolate as a cooking/baking base (make your own dark choc dessert!) etc. Have lots of yummy fun experimenting!

This is a matter of your taste buds. Also the quotient of cocoa beans in our chocolate might make it stronger but just as tasty. I have found a penchance towards European chocolates after my travels there.

Teuscher, Leonidas, Lindt
Scharffenberger (Bay Area chocolate that is good)

I do agree that dark chocolate is excellent for your health (in small doses) because less fillers and sugar as found in milk chocolate or white chocolate.

Just like vitamins, it's important to do your research and buy the best quality product if you want to get the health benefits of dark chocolate. I'm including a website below, for a Xocai which is known as the healthy chocolate (due to its cold pressed processing), but I always suggest you look for multiple sources and even consider checking with your doctor.

Cacao, the nutritional source of healthy chocolate, is nature’s top source of antioxidants. Antioxidants are nutrients that neutralize free radicals and slow their damage.

“…among the most important observations in the history of medicine…How important does that make [cacao antioxidants]? I would say very important." —Harvard physician and researcher Norman Hollenberg, MD, regarding the benefits of cacao’s antioxidants.

Among cacao’s most impressive phytonutrients are several types of polyphenols, largely recognized as some of the most powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds known today. The most powerful and prominent polyphenols in cacao are flavanols.

Hundreds of studies have found that flavanols possess distinct and powerful properties, including the ability to:

Minimize inflammation throughout the body
Slow free radicals
Protect the heart and blood vessels
Support the immune system
Promote antibacterial/antiviral activity in the body
Relax and dilate blood vessels
Modify blood sugar levels
Protect the brain
Preserve cellular integrity
Protect and repair the liver
Positively modify hormone activity
and much more!

Purdy's truffles--the ones laced with black sambuca and the rum balls. Hershey's pure chocolate chips and bars. I don't mind Ferrero Rocher and those Belgian seashell chocolates.

Low-fat cocoa may be more to your liking. Tootsie rolls and Big Turk bars are low in fat.
