you can use any dimension, shape, size, color, or material you'd like. keep in mind that each sub is differnt. each sub has a box that it likes. manufactures give you the specs on the box that will go best with your subwoofer. some 0.5 cubs some 2.0 cubes it just depneds on the box. if you dont build your box to the sub's specs, your not going to get everything out of the sub. you could take the best woofer in the world and put it in a crappy box, and it will sound crappy. the box is everything, and a lot of people dont get that. so make your box to the subs specs, and you'll be fine. otherwise, you'll be sorry.

good luck.

You can use any dimensions you want provided you end up with the box volume that is recommended for your speaker. As long as it's the right internal volume, and the vent that some speakers have in the center of the magnet isn't blocked, then the length, width, shape, etc. aren't important.

Depends on your subwoofer. Some subwoofers can work good with small boxes, some require big boxes. Depends on what sound u want also. If you want a Thump, then a medium to smaller box will do..like 1.5-2 cubic feet. If you want a BOOM then 2.5-3 will do.

Subs dont sound good..the box makes the sub sound good.

There is a so-called "golden ratio" for speaker boxes to get the most out of your speakers.

Check out this site:
http://www.ajdesigner.com/speaker/index.php

They offer free calculators (for download) for different kinds of enclosures that will tell you the best dimensions based on the input you give them.

Hope this helps!
