I have a Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance. I now sing professionally as an Opera chorister and I tour with a singing group. The majority of my income is made from singing, although I do supplement to afford living in a big city. Many of my colleges supplement by having regular church gigs.

In college I was a Psychology major, with a minor in Music History. I went on to get a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, and worked as a psychologist for 31 years. Classical music remained my primary "outside interest."

Since I retired three years ago, I have been teaching two undergraduate Classical music history & appreciation courses at a community college. I feel now like I've kind of come "full circle." Teaching these same courses over and over during the past 6 semesters has been full of pleasant surprises--the main one being that every semester I find that I learn something new about pieces of music I've heard hundreds of times! And it's very gratifying to feel that I'm exposing some of the younger generation to these masterpieces, and that I'm having a chance to pass along some interesting information about the great composers and their music.

I majored in Music and minored in a then new interdepartmental study Folklore and Mythology, which combined literature, folk music, ethnomusicology, and elementary psychology.
I wound up following music. There is still very little money to be made there, but the psychological gain is tremendous. Although my bent is toward the psychological, I find I deliver better therapy through 1) singing and healing myself and 2) teaching other people to sing than the usual clinical approach. Had music therapy been offered at that time in my university, I might have followed that path instead.
which is your path?

I have a degree in music.....wihch I acquired 'along the way' when I was studying medicine. My music degree is in organ performance...and I STILL find it very relaxing to sit at the console of a large pipe organ at the end of a day of teaching/surgery/time in the office/whatever I happen to be doing that day. Putting on the 'full organ' stop gets rid of a LOT of frustrations.

I never finished my college degree in music. I'm a professional jazz player and I play gigs four nights a week. I wish I had completed the degree so I could teach in schools.

I have a BS in piano performance and an MA in music history. I left music completely and followed different roads. I was a French teacher, did computer tech support, and now am a pilot. There was no money in music and I didn't finish my Ph.D.
