As has been said, Chinese is the most difficult and challenging language in the word, while English is the easiest and simplest.

As for myself, a Chinese, i found it really hard to take this up from my experience.

I am a student of an university located in south China, majoring in Software Engineering. See, as a future IT worker, with a society full of competion is expected by tomorrow , English skills would be extremely essential for me.

I've been struggling very hard to improve it last year, and the reasult turned out to be depressed. The problem is, I still can not express my ideas freely while talking, can not recall some "critical" words while expressing, can not write down the words without speeling mistakes while wrinting, can not get the clear information while listening!

This is really frustrating, my hard works turn out to be a waste of time and sweat. Just now i accidentally log on this web site, and completed the registration, finding some help... SOS~~~

I just came back from the classroom cause i had a lesson tonight, it's 9:00, P.M., Beijing times, by the way.

Eager to get the proposals, I've already read all the answers carefully and throughly, and found many constructive perspectives from you all, especially those posted by david, gabriel, Nader, gigi(a very interesting name to me) and ishara. I wanna thank you all here, your kindness is really helpful & grateful. It makes me think that even some kind of relationship based on Internet communications could really transcend Sth. that's awful.

I'll take your counsel, try to adapt to new learning methods, and see what will descend on me in the near future.

Actually, when i was in the classroom just now, i was thinking about whether i've been putting too much emphasis on the language itself, and ignoring Sth. out of the confine of any language. Such as my mechanism(i mean psychology) while i am dealing with it.

Maybe i should go to download the latest 《PRISON BREAK》 now. ^-^

I haven't read the other answers so I'm not sure if I'm repeating anything. I was born in the USA but my parents are from Cuba and Panama respectively. I have a lot of family members and friends who have struggled with the English language, some showing more success than others. I'll tell you what has proven to work for them. Practice practice practice! My mother is very timid and is afraid to speak English because she thinks she'll say things wrong, etc. However I have an aunt who has improved greatly in her English because she speaks it whenever she has the opportunity, whether or not she says things wrong...people correct her and in speaking the language with locals she can hear how people pronounce things and learn English expressions and phrases. I've also noticed with my friends and family that watching English TV helps a lot. Again you are able to hear how words are pronounced and how they are used and it will help you greatly. Another great resource is www.wordreference.com Unfortunately they do not have a Chinese translation button on there, however, if you need help on spelling a word or if you are having trouble with the meaning of a word or the way a phrase is used that website is a great resource. The forums in particular because the members of the forums are very helpful. I hope this helps and good luck with your English, it seems you are doing well already! :)

Yes. You do speak English extremely well. My sister took some classes at a some kind of public university somewhere. Maybe you could get some kind of class there or even if you can, go to England for your next vacation! My father went to Germany for high school without knowing any German and came out fluently in the first year. I also had a friend from Italy come to my school and didn't know the language at all and she is now fluent! But If you can't go to England or somewhere else to practice your English, I would just suggest to go get some classes! And if you cant do that, my sister and I used this really great program called "The Rosetta Stone" and that really worked too!
But it may be a bit too easy for you, since your writing in English is so good ! ~I hope you find a solution

Here are few ways to improve your English

Read English books as much as you can & when you go through any difficult word just use the dictionary.

To improve your English talking, watch English films , subtitled in Chinese (Hope you know the word "subtitled" ,if you don,t just ask some one)

When I was a small kid I liked to watch Hindi films. And now I can understand & talk Hindi well.(But I can,t write or read Hindi). I did it just by watching films subtitled in my language!
But English is not difficult as Hindi.

Wish you good luck in English!

I am wondering if this is a joke, because you
are so articulate in English. But anyway,

Do you understand semantics? I only know
the Queen's English. Another language,
European(ok, Italian), is different. The
"sentences" are rearranged
in contrast to standard English.
Sounds like you are doing pretty
good anyway. Better than
native Americans(native, being
a cultural joke). Hope that helps.

And people like to misspell. It's
a type of code, when a person on
the internet only wants their friends
to understand what they are saying.

I agree, you seem to write very well! so your problem is only really that you need to improve fluency. the ONLY way to do this is to read english and listen to native english speakers regularly, so, as already suggested, try to watch the english news once a day, read english newspapers as often as possible, you will crack it!
best of luck.
