I have checked the switch with a multimeter and have checked the fuse and wire connections. I have replaced the bulb. The guy at Auto Zone pointed out that the posts on my bulb were melted and had made contact. Any one know how I can fix the brake light and dash lights not working with the head lights on?

Some cars use the brake light as a fuse. You should be able to measure 12 Volts with your multimeter at the tail light(s) when the brake pedal is pressed and the ignition is turned on. If you don't see 12 Volts at both brake lights, you may have an open circuit between the fuse box and tail light. Some manufacturer's use one fuse for a brake light and one headlight. Then a second fuse is used for the other brakelight and the other headlight. In your Sentra, they may have the instrument dash lights tied to one of the headlights.

Sounds like the parking light circuit is being shorted by the wrong type bulb in the left brake light. Try to remember what happened (before) when the problem first noticed
