Sounds to me like your XP disc is missing.
At least you have the driver disc.

Sounds like you bought a retail branded pc with windows xp pre installed. In some cases manufacturers will not supply the xp disc but the should provide a method of restoring your pc to its original state.
The method is usually disc or partition cloning. this means when your pc was made, a snapshot of everything on the harddrive was taken which can later be restored to put the harddrive back to the original state.
Look through the recovery CD, if its driver recovery only- thats not it- you must look for some sort of "system restore disc".
try booting from the recovery cd. Enter your system bios (usually del, F1, F2, F9 or F12) on startup. find boot options, find boot order and put your cddrive first and harddrive second. restart PC with recovery cd in. If the disc is bootable it will have some sort of help to guide you through restoring your pc.
If its not the driver recovery cd you mention then you might have some other bootable cd about that you have missed.
I cant offer more than that without knowing more details about your setup. If you definitely dont have a hard drive image that can be restored like i suggested then you will have no choice but to acquire the XP disc.
If you need the disc, post another question about it. you have a licence for xp so it wouldnt be illegal for you to downlaod the same version, i will answer this question if i see it.

The thing is that most pcs and laptops now come with a preinstalled version of Windows XP. It happened to me when I bought my laptop from PC World, it came with a pre installed xp media centre edition, however I had the software to create using a blank DVD so a recovery dvd was made.
The recovery disk probably contains instructions to install the xp. You have two options insert the cd and see what it does, if you see xp or anything , if not I suggest and I recommend you ring your PC retailer or manufacturer to see if the recovery disk contains the xp. I am surely it does since most pre installed pcs and lap tops from manufacturers and leading retailers come with a version of xp or the new vista installed.
Hope this helps and good luck like I said phone your pc retailer and find out.

you dont have a windows disc, either its missing or it is pre installed on a seperate partition, to find out switch off then switch on and immediately start tapping F10 ,keep tapping and if it is installed it will bring you to another menu, you will need to do a destructive recovery ie it will destroy all data on board and reinstall a fresh copy of windows, once that is finished put the driver disc in and install all the drivers and you are good to go, first back up any files you want to keep such as music, photos or work

You wont be able to re-install XP on either of those discs, as Works is your word processing software, and the other is just for backing up your data.
Before thinking of actually re-installing XP, try searching for virus's, spyware, ad-aware, and unwanted files.
Please e-mail me if you want any more help.
