I have a bit of a phobia about general anaesthetics, and some of the statistics are quite alarming.

CT scans show an inflamed appendix, which has led to a thickening of the colon wall due to inflammation in the right iliac fosse. They think it could either be a straight appendectomy, or an appendectomy with a hemicolectomy where the colon is inflamed. Another CT scan is required.

To be honest i am cr@pping myself at the thought of this surgery, not because of the pain, which I couldn't care less about, but the whole general anaesthetic thing is worrying me. Is this a routine op. should I be worrying? I would like some reassurance really.

Don't worry, this is an easy procedure that is quite simple and painless now a days. I had my gall bladder removed and all the drs. did was make 4 tiny holes in my stomach and took the gallbladder out through there. You will be o.k. just remember how far modern medicine as come.
About the anaesthetic, there is nothing to be worried about. I have been through 6 surgeries (two were brain surgeries) in which I have been under the best anaesthetic there is and the only side effect that I have ever experienced was getting sick.
I hope that everything goes well and I wish you all the best. Don't be scared there are too many medical advances out there for a minor surgery to cause so much worry. All the best.

I cant give you any medical advice but as someone who has had a bone marrow transplant and been under general anaesthetic more than twice i can assure you that you will be fine and the benefits always out way the risks or they just wouldn't bother would they, you may feel spaced for a few days afterwards but that soon clears and you will be fighting fit in no time ,as for your appendix that's better out than in you have to face this surgery to be 100% it will be over before you know it ,so worry not and i am sure you will be fine.

Don't stress yourself out. I think that because you know it is coming up you've started thinking and worrying too much. I had an emergency appendectomy and I was in so much pain it was a relief to have the general anaesthetic!. The operation is a straightforward one and you will feel so much better in the future. Also, recovery is not too bad either, don't worry you'll be absolutely fine.

Hey this is an easy. routine operation--done a lot everyday, all over the world. The condition will be much better after the surgery and some relaxation. Please just be calm and take it easy. Good luck and feel better
