This solution won't be possible for everyone but should help out some. A little luck may be required.

Step 1:

Take your regular old Windows XP CD and copy every single file on it to your hard drive to a directory named "Winxpcd" for convenience.

Step 2:

Search for a file under that subdirectory named, Setupp.ini" and open it in Notepad. Then change the value of the line that begins with "Pid=" to read "Pid=51883270" and save the file over the original.

Step 3:

Use ISOBuster to copy the file Microsft.img to somewhere on your hard drive. This isn't very hard but it helps to know to use ISOBuster to hunt through the tree in its left pane until you find the "folder" labeled "Bootable CD" and then in its right pane right click the file Microsoft.img and select Extract which should be at the top of the short cut menu.

Step 4:

Then burn a Boot CD with Nero. Select the Microsoft.img file on your hard drive as the Boot Image, and put all of the files from the Winxpcd directory from above in the root of the soon to be created disc.

Important Note: On the Boot tab set Kind of Emulation to No Emulation, Load Segment of Sectors to 07C0, Number of Loaded Sectors to 4. Then on the ISO tab make sure all the Relax ISO Restrictions are turned on, Character Set is ISO 9660, File/Directory Name Length is at ISO level 2, and Format is Mode 1.

Step 5:

Download a copy of Keyfinder from http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml and put it on a flash drive, a diskette, a CD and also email it to yourself at a web-based email address.

Step 6:

Go to a local university computer lab, or a computer lab at a fairly large company and run Keyfinder on one of there computers and it will give you a copy of their Volume License Key. You might not get lucky and they might not have a Volume License Key or they might have their computers locked down so that you have no way to run the program on their computers. Do it one more than one computer if you can and write down the license keys you get. Hopefully they'll all be the same which is a sign that they have a VLK.

Step 7:

Go back home and use your previously created Windows XP CD and your newly acquired VLK and reinstall Windows XP and activation and validation shouldn't bother you again.
