Well.. There is no answer for this question yet....
Vista is a brand new O/S.
I received my free upgrade last week, and so far, so good.
Every application i had installed on XP works fine.
Of course there still are a few glitches. Like Vista Constantly asking for confirmation on system changes. But i believe this can be disabled to an extent. Mac OS X has had this feature for some time.
Compared with XP you ask???? They are quiet different. The new Start menu is something that i am trying to get used to.. Instead of having menus that jump out to the right, They all open in the one pane... A little frustrating when you have a large number of programs installed and you have to scroll through the list to find the folder, then the application.
One thing i do like is the way that documents are stored.
Instead of only having the 'My Documents' Under the users profile.. You have your User Folder. The within this you have a downloads folder. A Music Folder. A movies Folder. A Photos folder, then you have a documents folder.
This is a very convenient way to store your documents.
The new interface is very cool.
"Who needs a 3D desktop" somebody said. To be quiet honest. I spend most of my day infront of a computer. And ANYTHING that makes my screen look a little bit "pretty" is a vast improvement.. I mean maybe its just me, but i am sick of Flat Grey unresponsive screen layouts. Vista really is a great looking O/S.
I would not rush out and buy it straight away (I got it as a free upgrade with my Acer laptop i bought in Feb) Give it a couple of months too mature, and for microsoft to fix a couple of the glitches, and i think Vista is a very promising OS.

Vista. some human beings say Vista makes use of up plenty gadget ram. it fairly is real. Vista makes use of those ram to velocity up the laptop. Thats why there isn't plenty loose ram. Xp wastes those loose ram doing not something. Vista is much extra properly matched than XP than u think of that is. Vista hasn't any concern to me for a million 3 hundred and sixty 5 days already. Vista is swifter while beginning application and commencing up the laptop. some human beings evaluate XP because of the fact they are too used to XP or they are gamer. it type of feels vista is slower in video games via 2-5 fps. No huge deal. VISTa!

I have been using both xp media centre 2005 and vista ultimate 32bit... i prefer XP...it runs faster than ultimate...all my software & hardware works perfectly on xp and it is easier to configure than vista is especially if you have a network....vista is hard on RAM and cpu power you'll need a good pc for it...Vista is too overpriced for what you actually get. At the end of the day vista is just really a bunch of fancy graphics... readyboost doesnt make much of a difference if you have 2gb of ram or more (and you need 2gb of ram or more to run it decently) my guess is wait a year or so.

Don't waste your money.
Have been using it, was a gift to me.
I would not fork out the cash for the POS.
Using XP and will continue to do so.
LOL
Sure people, fork out all your money to have a few extra bells and whistles...because ahh yeah, it looks "great"..lol...whatever.
The state of Vista is a disgrace.
Seriously, XP does it all for me and every now and then i boot into Slackware for some tinkering.

I can't stand it, I thought Microsoft couldn't make a worse operating system that XP, how wrong I was. Who the hell needs a 3d desktop!? Even disabling it doesn't help, it still continues to eat through your RAM.

Well i couldn't personally tell you because i don't have it but i haven't heard many good tings about it... its very demanding on RAM, you need a powerful processor, and a good graphics card...
