How long is a "sea tour" (Us Navy)?

It depends on RATE (paygrade), RATING (job title), AND NEC (Naval Enlistment Code {qualifications within job title})!! It runs from 2-6 years... some folks have to extend their sea-tour to get certain schools or for re-enlistment.

For example, in 1996, an AW1 would serve a 4 year sea-tour going to a helicopter or fixed-wing squadron. BUT an AW1 with NEC to serve as a carrier-based ASW-Module Analyst would only serve a TWO year sea-tour !! This occured because VERY few AW's would want to be stuck on the aircraft carrier doing briefings, analysis, and debriefings... so the Navy decided to make it only a two year tour and give a $20K bonus to those who would select that NEC.

My first sea-tour was 6 years at an HSL Squadron... 4 yrs plus two when I reenlisted, and then a 3 year shore tour.

It varies by rank and rate. The navy's stated goal has always been a 36 month sea duty and 36 month shore duty rotation. However, I've known guys who had sea tours as long as 66 months.

A sea duty rotation varies in the Navy according to what rank you are. E1-E4 is 4 years E5-E6 is 3 years and so forth. As far as being deployed out to sea, that can last as few as 2weeks(work up and quals) to 6 months(cruise)

depends entirely on the rating. some are sea intensive and for every 2 years on shore duty you spend five years on sea duty. Others, like the SeaBee ratings and CTI are NEVER assigned to sea duty, but do deploy to ships when necessary. stillothers are split evenly..3 years shore duty, three years sea duty.

of course a sea ytour is entirely different than a deployment or underway period.. those can last anywhere from a day to 9 months.

US Nuclear Submarines can stay submerged for decrease than as long as they have food. that's what's the proscribing element. I certainly are transforming into to be underway "strolling" on food. super #10 can stacked 2 intense in the process the forward compartment and that's only for starters. of course, that is an extremely long term! I certainly have long previous over 2 months submerged dissimilar circumstances.

A sea tour could last as long a six months, especially if you are a par tof a Surface Action Group or a Carrier Task Force. These groups "show the Flag" at various parts of the world.
