Iv'e been asked to be the best man at a mates weddingin 2008 any ideas or jokes for a speech.

i havent been this nervous since i took a shower in prison! ( this as an opener to get a guaranteed laugh, it worked when my hubby was best man)

arrange with a handfull of male guests beforehand, on the day at the speech ask "obviously before the bride met the groom she had male friends, to each of her male friends she used to give a key to her flat, obviously now she is married she would like to have her keys returned to finally say goodbye to the single life, could anyone with a key please come up now and return them" (place a bowl in front of the bride and arrange about 20 blokes to queue and drop their keys in, this goes down a storm BUT only if they are game for a laugh. hope this helps good luck as nervee racking as it is it is a real honour and you will do him proud

This is an old one but a good one. before the wedding or on the day before the meal you pick out 6 guys and tell them that during the speeches you will ask, for all the guys that have the keys to what ever the new brides name is to give back the keys to her house flat etc. as she is now an honest woman. Then the guys walk up to the top table and leave a key in front of her new husband. It is funny but make sure the new couple are up for anything.

ask the bride to be about stories and his mum and dad, even siblings, if your the best man then you have stories of your own but be discreet don't upset the bride on her big day, also use stories about the fathers at the stag do and funny tings that happened on the hen night. All in all keep it light hearted, but put a serious note in at the end. good luck what a hard job x

whatever you do, dont make a lot of inside jokes only the couple would know. I would be sincere and if there is something funny like He hates to clean... Tell the Bride good luck with trying to "Train" him... that kind of thing. Their families are going to be there. Dont do anything that will emabarrass you, them or their families. If there is a video, this will be captured forever!

You're obviously quite close to the couple - so make it personal!! they could have chosen anyone to crack a joke or two.
If you have any funny stories about either the bride or groom (drunken trips out..etc) use those, they always get a laugh =P

Don't forget to pay compliments to the bride and bridesmaids (how beautiful they look) and tell a couple of funny stories but not ones that will make your friends new in-laws hate him

Go onto ebay and type in bestman speeches, it costs approx 1.99 and then you tailor make them into your own. It is great, we are getting married in June and my Bestman and myself have got our speeches this way. They are humourous too
