When I scan the doc in it has a box round it and will not let me edit the text within.

When you scan anything, it becomes a picture that is stored on your pc, you need to have an OCR program to change the scanned image into a text document.....

You can't do this because scanned documents are images. the only way you can do this is to use an Optical Character Recognition package. This reads the data into the file and tries to recognize the character as actual letter and numbers. The most well known package is OmniPage. Have a look on the web for OCR packages or have a loom at Omnipage's website and you will be OK. Please note these programs are not 100% so it will not be a perfect OCR - you will have to help the program make sense of stuff it can't recognize. Hope this helps, good luck.
