and people who have low self image and hate tend to go the other way.

I don't think personality has anything to do with religious belief's. I know a few people that go to church and claim to be religious and they have cheated on their spouses, they are selfish and would stab you in the back just as soon as you turn around and don't have a compassionate bone in their body. The atheists I know are compassionate, do volunteer work and are the first to offer a helping hand. I am not grouping all religious people in bad light and all atheists in a good light....I don't think there is a way to know who might become a religious or who might be an atheist.

I think both types of people would tend to be overly left-brained. Religious does not imply spiritual, and spirituality is certainly more important than religion. religions are merely like different languages. I would love to see a world that bridges logic with mysticism. I believe in both science and spirituality. For me, that new way of viewing the world is pantheistic. I believe that God is Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent. A bridging between the left and right (Brain and politics!) is what the world needs. A balnace between the masculine and feminine. The Earth has reached a crisis point, but in Chinese crisis means danger and opportunity. A few natural scares may unify us all to stop being such a rapacious and war-mongering species, I hope for the best.

I don't think religion has anything to do with someone's personality. I could see it having to do with the way they were raised or the people they were raised around. For instance, if someone had a very religious family, chances are, they might be very religious themselves. Or they could rebel against that and choose to get away from the religious life. I don't see someone's personality as being a factor of religion.

I really don't think that's a valid question, actually. I know a lot of religious people who you would think would be straight on their way to hell. On the other hand I'm a very quiet and sweet person and I'm always helping people, and everyone always assumes I'm religious even though I'm an atheist.

People who have a natural tendancy to questions their surroundings would be more likely to become and Atheist. Those who have a deep desire to be guided would be more likely to be religious.

An example is when you were a kid, and you mother says the ocean is pink, without having seen the ocean - do you just believe what she says (religious), or do you go and seek the truth (atheist).

I don't believe that people are more likely to have certain beliefs because of their personality types. Interesting question though, I have been Christian and then Atheist and I guess elements of my personality have changed ... I am now more confident and less judgemental.
