Budgies and cockatiels do very well in aviaries as they're generally not really bad when it comes to noise. I find budgies and cockatiels do well in a mixed aviary as long as they have the space to escape each other. Be warned - not all agree with this as budgies can be very snotty bullies and have been known to pester cockatiels mercilessly.

The noise level of an aviary depends on how many birds you're going to have and what sex they'll be. I have a small indoor aviary and my male tiels make a heck of a racket. I have to admit, though. It's not as bad as my green cheek conures when dinner is being served!

Finches are another group of birds that do well in aviaries. In fact, some, like widow birds, need the extra space as the male's breeding plumage is so long that it would be hampered by a cage. Weavers are another type of passerine (perching bird) that do well in aviaries. Many shore birds need an aviary with lots of cover as they're shy.

For a good book, I suggest reading anything by M.Vriends. He's an expert on this topic and has raised numerous species in both home and aviary conditions. Bird talk magazine is another good source for aviary information.

As far as my opinion goes....I think teils can be a little loud at times but they are still great. I would recommend that you make sure you keep them in pairs though because they will fight a lot less then when there are an odd number.
