Well i have a female dog she is a year old well she looks like she is very pregnent. Well i didnt mate her with my male i dont even know when she came to heat. I just notice 2 weeks ago that her nipples are hanging and she had gain some weight. So i took her to the vet so they could check her, they felt on her belly and said that she was and to bring in the follow week to do a x-ray so i did well they x-ray her and they didnt see nothing on the x-ray. So they think they mistaked how many weeks she was they thought she was about 45 days before i had took her in. But i think she is about 4-5 weeks maybe going to 6 weeks but i had her x-ray last week on the 13th. Well she is still getting bigger her belly is starting to drop and vagaina is starting to swell but i cant feel nothing in her belly but it is swollen (hard). So i dont know if it was to early to see some thing on the x-ray thats what the vets thinks but i dont know. ANY INFO ON FALSE PREGNANCY?????

Hi Furias!
The earliest method of pregnancy detection is ultrasound -- a nice test because it is noninvasive and very reliable. Fetal heartbeats can be detected at around the 25th day from first breeding.

Most experienced veterinarians can determine pregnancy by simply feeling the dog's abdomen during a certain a window of time -- about 20-30 days after conception. During this time period, there is uterine swelling around the placental sites that feels like firm and discrete lumps.

A third way to detect pregnancy is by taking x-rays. Fetal skeletons can be visualized at about 45 days of pregnancy.

- it is the hormonal fluctuations of the cycle, a dog body essentially thinks female is pregnant. All the hormones are present; only the puppies are missing.

Furias, confirming pregnancy necessitates a trip to the veterinary office.

What breed of dog is she? Some breeds carry pups high up in the rib cage until late pregnancy. They can be difficult to detect.I would think that they would show up on an xray. You wouldn't see them on an ultrasound scan though. I used to breed dogs & I found that the only sure sign that they were pregnant was a discharge at around 6 weeks. It was a clear sticky discharge. I did once have a dog who showed all the signs & even went into what looked like labour on the due date. I took her to the vet because no pups appeared after 6 hours. She wasn't even pregnant!

Oh, i've had some experience with this.
My dog got fat all of the sudden, so we thought she was pregnant (since we also have a male),
since my mom knows how to do the whole dog birthing thing, we didn't go to the vet 'cause we thought it wasn't necessary.
But, a couple weeks back she went into heat!!
So, apparently, my dog's just really fat. =/

Good luck with yours.
Sorry I couldn't be of much help.
