We were considering not taking a tent and sleeping bags as acommodation is cheap in india/asia,

Every thing is available in India... you need not bring any thing except your personal clothing, accessories etc... If you have money in your pocket or credit cards with you, you will get all that you get in your country... you will go back to your home country with fond memories... happy visit to India the incredible…!

Right... Tents and sleeping bags are really not required in India. There are loads of hotels right from low budget to high budget which ever suits you. I am a tour operator here... and I can help you out if you think u need any help.

No need to take a tent. Cheap accomm is widely available. Alternatives such as policestation, temples, schools, government resthouses maty also be a cheap / free option.
