Best to have it looked at by your doctor since it is persistant. Could be Gout, broken or have a hairline fracture, sprained or possibly arthritis.

They have 5 on the front and 4 on the back. The five on the front include the dew claw or the little one. Some cats do have extra toes just like some people have extra fingers or toes. It is called polydactayle. My sister in law has a cat with 7 toes on his front paws and 5 on the back. One of the extra toes has 2 nails. He has 8 toenails on one paw. Vets usually leave them alone If they are not causing the cat problems. Declawing is not recommended for any cat. You take away a cats defense when you take the claws off. If you are worried about getting scratched or the cat tearing up stuff in the house you can easily trim the nails yourself. Have the vet show you then you can do it once a week to cut down on scratches without having a cat declawed.

If it were Gout, u wouldnt be walking on it or even attempt to try and crack it, gout is very painful ,tender to the slightest touch. Could very well be either hang nail...painful and stiff like feeling, that i know or ingrown toenail, which would eventually turn red and swollen do to infection setting in....One other idea, tendintis, which also swells and gets red. But, if it doesnt get any better i would go the Dr. or emergency if it gets worse......Best of luck ;)

You are right, gout usually happens to older people, but young people can get it also. I don't know of any home remedies, but look at WebMD and type in gout on the sites search and see what it says. I think this is something that a doctor will need to deal with.

could be you sprained it...my Boss had the same thing happen to him...Company Doctor said it was gout by running blood test...his Family Doctor did a needle test and it wasn't even gout just a sprained toe that kept getting aggrivated by the boot the company doctor gave him. He got different boot and it went away within a week So....get xray...until then stay off of it and see if it gets better

I am going through the same thing, and it might be hallux rigidus (stiff big toe). I have a podiatrist appointment next week to find out more information

Are you sure it's not broken? a lot of times people break fingers and toes without realizing it until a week or two later, get it checked out no matter what you think it may be.
