Walking is great.
Cutting soda and fast food is also great. Drink water instead of soda. You'll get used to it. 8 8oz. glasses a day, at least!
And don't lower your calorie intake below 2000. It's just not healthy.
And forget the scale for at least one month.
Eat 5-6 balanced meals a day. Always eat breakfast! This boosts your metabolism.
Try to expand your culinary horizons. I've discovered that I like soy products, for example. Now I have a small bowl of muesli with soy milk. I still eat fresh cottage cheese, though, but when you deprive your body of calories, it's good to have a little variety when it comes to meals.
Sometimes you should change your exercise routine. Once a week walk 5 miles instead of 4; or go dancing instead; or toss a stick to your dog. Change something, so that your body doesn't get used to just one exercise. Or walk as fast as you can for one minute, then stroll for the next 5.
Good luck. :)

wow.. thats awesome.. you are going to do great..
but don't reduce your calorie intake too low all of a sudden. that will only work against your goal. reduce slowly by 100 caloruies a day till your reach 2000 calories.
and walking is good. but it is good for slow activity level. you need to do way better than that in order for you to stay motivated.
Try high intensity interval training.
20 minutes or High Intensity Interval Training thrice a week is all you need.
You can do it on a cardio machine like a stationarty bike or elliptical machine or tradmill.
if you prefer jogging,
jog for 5 minutes at a normal rate,
then jog at your maximum speed possible for one minute or run.
jog slowly for the next minute to catch your breath.
repeat this five times.
three minutes of slow joggin for cool down..
Way effective than normal walking or jogging. Gives you a hard toning too..
and for the recipe, pm me, and i will give you a free book with excellent recipes.

You sound like you are off to a Great start. Good for you, I hope your success comes quicker instead of later. Taking off pounds is a lifestyle thing that only you can do when you decide to do it.
Keep at it and don't let anyone or anything keep you from being active. Maybe down the road you might want to start jogging or doing more intensive exercise, but from your question, this is a great start, all the best to you.
ps, our dogs love being walked, also, its a social thing for them being outside and walking with us, good for you for being a great pet owner as well as a great exerciser. :-)

Attitude is everything--goals and deadlines are the enemy---avoid all the thoughts about the weightloss issue--just change the diet and enjoy a healthy active life style--you will naturally lose the weight and won't suffer the disappointment of waiting and watching-----the anxiety of constantly looking and wondering leads to gorging on foods that give you comfort and ease the stress-----so be cool, relax, keep moving and smile--you will do fine---good luck
