Wow can you feel the hate tonight? Nice answers folks, waa waa waa...I want some milk and cookies....
Anywho, the Bible says your body is a temple and you shouldn't desecrate your temple. In the Old testament there are specific commandments against piercing your body. This was done because many of the surrounding cultures near the Jewish people used to pierce their skin and God wanted the Jewish people to be set apart from that.
Now, fast forward to today. Why pierce? Should we be legalistic about it? No, I don't think that is necessary. If your answer to "why pierce" is something along the lines of "cause all my friends are doing and I want to look cool" then you probably shouldn't. We are told to be in the world and not of the world, right?
Now - is it a sin? Bah. It depends on the position of your heart and your motivations for doing it. I used to have a piercing (belly button) but I took it out cause I got bored with it. I know many Christians who get scripture verses tattooed on their bodies.
Now in the New Testament there are a couple references to men piercing one ear as a sign they are a "bond slave" to Christ. (Slaves back then had an ear pierce to signify they were slaves). This is an old tradition and nowadays no one would understand it.
Don't sweat the small stuff is the morale to this story my friend.

Because people love to say someone can't do something they think is wrong because the Bible says so. In point of fact, the Bible says a lot of things are wrong that people do every day. It's time for the Church to wake up get back to the basics. It's not about legalism.

I've learn ed not to listen to anything that a christian tells me. they ALL think that they are better than everyone else. it's funny that they try to teach people all about their love and compassion, but then they turn around, and end up being some of the most hateful people on earth.
i have a my-space account, and this chick that i went to high school with, sends me these bulletins all of the time saying "if you don't re-post this in the next five minute's, then you don't really love god, blah blah blah..." i mean, from the bulletins that she posts and what her page says about god, you would think that this girl was the poster child for god - but this girl turns right around and sends other bulletins (surveys most of the time) and she talks about how she goes out on the weekends and gets drunk and does drugs and she cusses like a drunken sailor. where's the logic in that?
sorry for the ranting and raving....to answer your question, Christians are hypocrites. it's as if they are telling the world "DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO"

It's not about being perfect-- piercing or not piercing. It's about trusting God through His promises by the connection created between man and God by Jesus Christ.
A Christian is a Christian because they trust God through Jesus Christ. That's one of the major tenets of Christianity. It has nothing to do with this and that sin unless you think that you are sinless. It has everything to do with trusting God.
