Does drinking a protein shake on its own cause you to gain extra lean muscle? No. But when combined with exercise it certainly helps. Let me explain why.
Protein shakes typically contain Whey protein, which is a safe byproduct in the creation of cheese. Whey protein is great because it is a fast acting protein, meaning that after a tough workout (especially a weightlifting workout), when your muscles are fatigued, the protein from the shake goes to help repair those muscles quickly. Most shakes are very low in fat, carbs and calories, meaning that you aren't taking in useless calories.
For an added bonus try mixing your Whey protein shake with skim or low fat milk. Milk contains Casein protein, which is a slow acting protein. The benefit is that the Whey protein will go quickly to your muscles while the Casein protein will take longer to absorb and thus give you a long lasting source of protein to help repair your muscles. Also make sure to check that the protein shake you buy contains Glutamine, which is an amino acid that is essential to building lean muscle mass.
Finally I should note that protein is great for burning fat and putting on lean muscle because proteins are harder than carbs and fats to break down for the body. This means that your body actually expends energy (calories) breaking down proteins so that they can be absorbed into your body.
So by combining exercise with daily protein shakes (I recommend having one after your workout, and one before bed (mixed only with water ) ), I think you will be well on your way to building lean muscle mass.

I suppose sit ups aren't the best for back, so maybe leg drops would be good for you.
I'd say do as much as you feel you can, that's what I was told when I was doing those sorts of work outs: do it until you can't do it anymore

Steaks, chicken, burgers pork, or like muscle milk or whey protein if u dont ingest some protein within 30 min of a workout u wasted your time
