I'm interested to find out if anyone has experienced Lexapro stop working. I've been on it for about 3 years and it just doesn't seem to be helping anymore. I've talk to my doctor and he said he has never heard of that happening. So I guess I'll just put this question out there to see what others are experiencing. I am going the talk to my doctor about Cybalta and see what he thinks.

I have battled depression since I was 14 and had a terrible childhood alot of abuse and such so I also have postramatic stress disorder.

I've been on it for 2 years at the max dose. Lately I might be a little more sleepy like before i was on it but i'm not contributing that to lexaprol. It's helped me a ton! However every anti-depressent your body can start to become immune to it (i was in a support group where other's kept becoming immune from their meds) so this could be happening to you where you need to find something else to keep you balanced.

I never liked lexapro, and everyone I know who takes it takes it in conjunction with another drug as it just doesn't seem to be strong enough.

I don't know if you realize whaat Cybalta is, but I recently checked it out. It's actually just a little bit of a reformulation of prozac, which came off of patent, so they just repackaged it so they could keep it as a drug under patent for another 20 years. Just wanted to make sure you knew what it was that you were thinking of taking. It is not in the same family as someone indicated. lexapro is closer in family to Paxil.

I'm surprised your doctor hadn't heard of this happening. When you take any psychiatric medication for an extended period of time it's not unusual for your body to adjust to the chemicals so it stops working as well or at all. Cymbalta is a good alternative to try, since it's basically the same compound.

lexapro , like all antideppressants can have different affects on different people - it can affect hormone balance too.....dont just come off it tho, talk to your doctor about gradually reducing your intake over a period of time,,,,see how you feel then,,,,trauma is bad, but sometimes talking and behavioural cognitive stuff is best - also try meditation, and relaxation type techniques - see a doctor who is into alternative treatments maybe....but dont just go off lex,,,it needs to be gradual,,,be careful of jumping from one drug to another,,,

Lexapro didn't work for me. My doctor switched me to Abilify (10 mg) and I have had good results with that.

This is for bi-polar though.
