The only Purina product affected by the recall is Mighty Dog 5.3 ounce pouches.

No other Purina products are affected by Menu Food's recall, so Friskies is safe.

Purina has its own pet food processing plant. They do have one dogfood on the list - something in a poush. But none of the cat food is listed. Friskies is safe. Besides, Friskies has been around for a long long time now - 40 or 50 years, maybe more. I used to feed my cats Friskies and never encountered a problem. I switched only becuase my cats now need a diet targeting specific conditions (one overweight and the other under weight) and the income of my household can now afford the more expensive cat food But I would not hesitate to feed my cats Friskies.

Purina is not on the list of recalled foods.

That said even their "high-end" products use animal by-products. In pet food "animal by-products" can include anything from cancerous growths to animals that died from diseases like mad cow. There are not the same standards on pet food as there are on human food.

I only use Wellness. It's somewhat of a pain because I have two new kittens and the only store in my area that does carry Wellness doesn't carry the kitten formula but they are quite happy to special order it for me.

Wellness uses only human grade food. If it doesn't pass the FDA's requirements it doesn't go into their product.

Independent pet stores are more likely to carry healthier food than the chain stores. Even if they don't carry it they can special order it. It doesn't cost you more to special order but you do need to plan ahead and not wait 'til the last minute to get more food. I have two kittens and order 5 cases of canned food a week before I need more (every two weeks for these hungry little guys! Bu I don't use dry food).

the cat section on about.com has some very eye-opening information on cat food.

I'm not sure, but you could look at the label on the can of cat food (Friskies) and see. If you can afford it, the pet store has Royale Cannine cat food. That is safe to use. I get the dry food for my cat. I wish you the best. Take care.

Just today, I became aware that Menu Foods has a recall on canned wet food sold in Walmart and Foodlion...In South Carolina at least. 14 animals have died so far from it....

www.menufoods.com has a complete list of recalled foods. Only canned and "pouch" foods (not dry foods) are on the list.

Purina is not on the list, and is safe.
Friskies is also safe.

I hope this helps!
