I know this sounds funny but don't use shampoo at all. I heard someone on the radio a while ago saying they hadn't used shampoo in 15 yrs and that their hair was healthy and clean and no dandruff (they had dandruff before they stopped using shampoo). I decided to give it a try and it really works.
The theory behind it is that your hair naturally produces the oil it needs and no more. By shampooing you strip the oil from your hair which in turn forces it to go into overtime to replace it. By not using shampoo and simply thoroughly rinsing with water only you allow your hair to find it's natural balance (this takes about 2 weeks).
Your hair feels good, smells good and, best of all, no more dandruff (I had it bad before and tried Head and Shoulders which didn't work).
A lot of shampoos artificially make your hair look and feel good by coating it in silicone. In the long run this is not good for your hair or your scalp.

Dandruff is one of the major disorders of the scalp.Poor hygiene, improper diet ,sluggish condition of the scalp caused by poor blood circulation are the main causes of dandruff. A herbal rinse is a safe method of removing dandruff. Apply lemon juice with the rind on the scalp .After 5 minutes wash off with shampoo and water. I suffer greatly from the same problem and have concluded that you can control it but not get rid of it. The condition is due to stress more than anything else and the alternative way to control it is to practice a healther lifestyle ( cardiovascular exercise and eating proper foods.
When showering, use only one type of shampoo don't switch all the time and towel dry your hair. Only dry with a blower only when needed. Add hair moisturizer since your scalp can no long produce the oils to lubricate the scalp anymore due to the buildup of dandruff.
Avoid hair gels and shampoos that contains alcohol!
Best of luck

Don't laugh...this works. After shampooing (use dandruff type), work an antiseptice type mouthwash into your scalp such as Listerine (the best). Let stand for 3-5 minutes, then rinse whole head with lukewarm water.

my husband has had a problem with dandruff for many years. It wasn't until recently we found Denorex. It's a little pricy but is well worth it. He will not use any other shampoo now. Make sure you get the kind with coal tar. Good Luck!!

screw head and shoulders, if you got it bad, use denorex.
avoid products that have alot of alcohol, like most hair gels
the alcohol causes the scalp to dry out and produce flakes.
use conditioners that also are alcohol free.
that otta do it for ya

Have you tried tea tree shampoo? It does not smell that great but is really good for scalp and hair conditions.

Head & Shoulders Intensive Solution is the best anti-dandruff shampoo. I alternate it w/ Head & Shoulders for sensitive skin.
