Weight charts and guides are unreliable, to be perfectly honest.

The best way to check a dog's weight is by look and feel. You don't want the dog's ribs to be obviously seen, but easily palpable (felt)

In other words, you shouldn't be able to see the dog's ribs clearly or obviously when on the opposite side of the room, but you should be able to feel them when pressing gently on the sides of his chest.

At the same time, at five months, he's still growing, and will continue to grow to until he's about a year old. You really shouldn't be worrying about weight issues until then.

He must be big. That is a lot for a Golden to weigh. He should be around 40lbs. But if he gets plenty of excise, don't worry.

Here is a great Golden Reteiver weight chart guide:
http://www.topgoldenretrieversites.net/cgi-bin/weight/weightreport.cgi?sortoption=a&gender=2&agemonths=ignore&ageyears=&option=list

According to that chart he should weigh around 38.2lbs which would be 17.32kg.. so he is just fine.
