I failed a drug test due to prescription pain meds I was taking. A quick call to the pharmacy by the lab doing the testing for a confirmation that I was indeed prescribed these meds, and all was well. If you have proof, you should be find. If you are fired, call an attorney.

You will definitely have a positive drug test result (meaning, you failed) using oxycodone. It will come up in the category of opiates. So if you have a legal prescription from a doctor, simply take the vial of oxycodone with you when you go to be tested & show it to the technician first (so you have the advantage of being one step ahead of them). As long as you have a prescription for it in YOUR OWN NAME, there will be no consequences because only a physician can order medication to be taken or not. HE is the authority, and you cannot be penalized in any respect for taking them or be fired. Since you will be positive for a drug when you give your sample, be aware that they will have to re-test it in a more extensive laboratory to break it down and identify it from just a generic opiate (like heroin, morphine, etc) to a specific prescription narcotic, which may take a week for the result...but that is standard procedure. If they DON'T retest your sample when you know it has oxycodone in it, INSIST and DEMAND they do because you need to prove that you are legally within your rights by following a doctor's order.
P.S. If you do not have a prescription from a doctor in your name for oxycodone, then this does not apply and you will need to consult with someone other than me.

Well, if your taking oxycodone because it's prescribed, have the doctor write a letter explaining the situation. Then contact your HR dept. and find out what you can do before you are subjected to a random drug test.

The job (any job) has no obligation to honor your cannabis card no matter what state you live in. It is completely at their discretion whether failing the drug test yet having the card is okay to them. You employer may not agree with it (probably why they do drug testing in the first place) and not accept the cannabis card. It is up to the employer and they do have legal and legitimate reason to fire you if you fail a drug test even though you have a card.

If it has been prescribed to you by a physician AND the level of the drug does not exceed the expected level that would be expected from the prescribed dosage you should be fine. The testing company will ask you to list any medications you are taking to include that information in their report. If you are using this narcotic with a prescription...you're pretty much screwed.

Absolutely. Unless the company uses a cheap drug test for the random ones. Many do. They highball the entry drug test and lowball the randoms. If it is a cheap test, then it may not test for inhibitors which you can purchase as your local head shop. The best thing you can do is gain some info from a company nurse or something. Or get off the stuff. That is baby heroin and way addictive. Ask Rush.
There is also something called the whizzer which you can purchase on EBAY...when all else fails, accessorize.

You will test positive for opiates. However, as long as you have a legal prescription in your name you will not be fired. Contrary to what the answerer above said, you can't just say you had a Vicodin left over from whatever and you took it. You will need to prove that you have a legal prescription for an opiate in your name by bringing the bottle with you-- they will not just take your word for it.

Being positive, which you will be is not your only concern. Depending on the dosage you are on you can be relieved of your position just for being on opiates because of the danger of working around machines and such. Insurance co. and OSHA have rules about this as you are figured to be at more risk of something happening. A friend of mine was recently let go from his job at the creamery after finding out of his pain prescription. He had worked there for 18 years.

NOPE When they test you just say you took a Vicodin you had left over from a surgery/dentist a year ago for your back or tooth ache. They should not be able to tell the difference between hydrocodone and oxycodone on a test it should just come up as an opiate.
