Their claim is that since atheists have no religion, then they don't belong here. I find this completely stupid. Do you have to be pregnant or a parent to go the "Pregnancy and Parenting section"? Do you have to have a pet to go to the "Pets" section?
NO....Atheists are here because we have an opinion on religion. And most of us, (like the in the pet section, people who have HAD pets but don't currently have one) is exactly the same concept as a Christian turned atheist. Even though we don't have a religion (pet) anymore.....does not mean we have no say in the religion (pet) section.
Atheists, do you agree? And religionists (or those who have asked 'why are atheists in this section')....do you understand now?

To Mrquestion: Atheists have every right to be here because; 1. MOST of them are former christians so they DO know what they are talking about. 2. Your comment, "They know nothing about it and don't believe in it, so they shouldn't talk about it." This is complete bull. So in that case, do you believe in Allah? or Buddha? or reincarnation? If not, then, in your perspective, I guess you shouldn't talk about them since you don't believe in them.

And another point, Mrquestion. Why would they create a section just for atheists? So they can all chat and agree with eachother? Yahoo Answers is here so people can learn and DEBATE with eachother! Not slam other peoples' religions. I do not agree with people disrespecting others' religions, but many have it coming to them when they disrespect OUR beliefs as well.
And to a previous answerer... Just because we do not believe in hell, does not mean that we don't take offense to "you're going to hell". We take offense to it because you yourself are judging us when it is not your place, nor anyone else's to judge another person.

Yes, that's right. Furthermore, the R&S section is inside the Society & Culture section, and I am very interested in how R&S affects the society I live in. I think it adversely affects society, and I want to do something about that.

Yes, we all have the freedom of speech, blah blah blah. I have been coming to this Religious/Spirituality section often. At first I thought it was going to be a place to ask about what a certain verse in the Bible meant. Or what this or that in the Qura'n means. Or to learn what Buddha taught. I am Catholic and study the Bible and still have much to learn. But I also like to learn world religions. And I find it interesting to hear from non-believers, agnostics, gnostics. I dated an atheist in high school. But having been here, when a Christian asks a serious question about a biblical verse, the atheists answer with rudeness and say things in mocked Jesus. Of course we can ignore them or say a prayer for them. But their rudeness is nonstop. There are Christians that give it back to the atheists at times but that is far and few between. And in all due respect, in regards to Christians and Muslims, we have our faith and we take it seriously and we know what God/Allah has said about non-believers. People without faith will be damned. So we, in all faith, can say that. If atheists don't like, then ignore it. Just like we have to ignore all their crap about Jesus being gay or being married and having a child or being an alien. Or God being a murderer. Why should an atheist hate me saying that they will go to hell when they don't even believe that hell exists?! How about if I just say that they will just decay and become worm food forever. Would that be nicer?

Atheism isn't a religion nor is it a spiritualism belief. If they are seeking knowledge in what religious people believe, then come and ask. But please keep the rude comments out. It's not necessary. There is more rude comments here than there is in the political section.

There, I've said my peace! Thanks for the opportunity to get this off my chest.

Personally, if I honetly believed that there is no God...I wouldn't waste my precious limited number of days in my life with coming here and trying to prove my viewpoint. I'd be out seeing the world living it up, visiting family, ANYTHING but here.

I however DO believe there is a God and Savior which is Jesus Christ...therefore I have the rest of eternity to help those that are looking for the truth. You will not find me religious; but, I'm fighting for faith and against the errant doctrines (from so many different direction) that are so prevalent today.

Whether you stay or go here..if you don't believe then at least be happy with the few days you believe you have left

I agree with you and I am somewhat spiritual. That being said, Christians (and these, I imagine, are most of the people who think atheists don't belong in this section) don't like to hear what people of a different belief system have to say. It's like children who would rather have sweets instead of veggies. For the record, I am not an atheist.

I am not an athiest but welcome everyone here. I do at times laugh though when some claim that Christians are trying to shove their beliefs down their throat. Geez then why come here I think to myself. What did they think people were gonna be doing playin tiddlewinks. What is funny is when they present an idea it is called presenting an idea but when Christians present an idea it is called shoving it down their throat. Not a level playing field. Oh well. Like I said all are welcome. Just an add on to one of your comments: I hope if you are going to the pregancy and parenting section you are at least hoping to become one or the other.

Maybe because they always complain that people are talking about their religion. I'm religious, but I don't hang around in an atheist website all the time just to hurl insults and complain.

If they would show that they had a sincere interest in at least learning about a religion, I would not be offended even if they don't believe in that religion they are learning about.

Isn't that what this forum is supposed to be about, coming here to learn about religion instead of just putting it down?

Wow, thumbs down for making a legitimate point.

Uh, is this a yes-or-no question? You've got at least 3 or 4 questions there... WHY are atheists here? -Probably for the same reason the Baptists and Lutherans are... to score points!

Of course, you can go to the "Pregnancy and Parenting section" if you are a man, but it would be COMPLETELY STUPID to try to give birth... Atheists should not talk about God because they don't know what they're talking about. Moreover, it is COMPLETELY STUPID to talk about something that you think DOES NOT EXIST. Why waste your time, then?
Maybe a special section for atheists should be created.

why dont you petition yahoo to give each a different catagory. or better yet, if you don't agree with another persons beliefs, IGNORE THEM!!!! see thats how easy it is. there. now everyone who sees something they don't like, move on to another question, cause if you don't like the content of the question, the question is not meant for you!! God Bless EVERYONE who sees this.
